Weapon Mechanics in the Renaissance Era
Weapons in Ultima Online: Renaissance dictate your character's combat pace, damage range, and defensive ability. Every weapon belongs to one of four core weapon skills: Swordsmanship, Fencing, Mace Fighting, or Archery.
Damage output in the Renaissance era is computed using:
- Base Weapon Damage: The randomized min-to-max range inherent to the weapon type.
- Tactics & Anatomy Multipliers: Tactics provides a percentage modifier to base damage, while Anatomy gives an additional scaling bonus.
- Strength Bonus: High strength grants passive bonus melee damage.
- Attack Speed (Swing Delay): Governed by your current Stamina and the weapon's base speed rating. Faster weapons land hits quicker and interrupt spellcasting more frequently, while heavier, slower two-handed weapons deliver devastating burst hits.
- Hands Required: One-handed weapons allow carrying a shield (enabling Parrying and potion consumption with a free hand). Two-handed weapons deliver higher raw damage or reach, but forfeit shield defense and require disarming to drink potions.
Swordsmanship Weapons
Swordsmanship encompasses bladed and hacking weapons capable of inflicting lacerating wounds and chopping blows. Swords can be coated with lethal poisons if one-handed, or used to execute the concussive and paralyzing special combat maneuvers.
