Complete guide to configuring the modern ClassicUO client, Linux Proton setup, MobileUO, and the comprehensive Razor Community Edition assistant.

Overview

UO:Renaissance uses the modern ClassicUO client paired with Razor Community Edition (Razor CE). ClassicUO provides hardware-accelerated rendering, buttery smooth 60+ FPS gameplay, arbitrary screen resolutions, and full support for high-DPI displays while faithfully preserving classic 2000-era art and mechanics.

Windows: The New UO:R Launcher (Recommended)

The easiest and most reliable way to play on Windows is via the official **UO:R Launcher**. It automatically downloads, patches, and updates ClassicUO, Razor, and game files for you.

  1. Download the Launcher:
  2. Install & Run:
    • Run UORLauncher.exe (right-click and select "Run as administrator" if prompted).
    • The launcher will download the necessary client files, verify your installation, and keep your game up to date automatically.
  3. Launch the Game:
    • Our server is already on the list ready to connect — simply click Play to launch ClassicUO with Razor pre-configured to connect to play.uorenn.com:2593.

Upgrading from an older installation? If you have custom Razor macros, profiles, or scripts from a prior installation, back up your Razor profile folders before installing the new launcher.

Linux Setup (Steam & Proton 11)

Playing UO:Renaissance on Linux (including Steam Deck, Ubuntu, Arch, Fedora, etc.) is seamless when running the game through Steam with Proton. The game installs and runs perfectly out of the box with no complex tweaks required.

Installation Steps:

  1. Download UORLauncher.exe from the official download link.
  2. Open Steam on your Linux desktop.
  3. In the bottom-left corner of the Steam client, click "Add a Game" → "Add a Non-Steam Game...".
  4. Browse to your downloaded UORLauncher.exe and click "Add Selected Programs".
  5. In your Steam Library, right-click UORLauncher and select Properties....
  6. In the left sidebar of the Properties window, click Compatibility.
  7. Check the box labeled:
    "Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool"
  8. From the dropdown menu, select Proton 11 (Beta) (or the latest Proton 11 release).
  9. Click Play in Steam.

The launcher will initialize, download the game files, and run ClassicUO with high performance and full audio support!

MobileUO (Android)

For adventurers on the go, UO:Renaissance features full compatibility with MobileUO — an open-source Ultima Online client built for Android smartphones and tablets. With the assistance of developer Mandlar from the MobileUO team, our shard features a dedicated auto-updating MobileUO client!

How to Set Up MobileUO:

  1. Download the Client:
  2. Select UO:Renaissance from the Server List:
    • Open MobileUO — our server (UO Renaissance) is already on the built-in server list ready to select and add! No manual IP or port typing is needed.

  3. Login & Play:
    • Enter your account username and password to log in and play anywhere!

Essential ClassicUO Features & Settings

ClassicUO provides a modern engine experience while maintaining 100% era accuracy. Here are the most important settings to configure upon first launching:

Display & FPS

  • Open Options (Alt + O) in game and navigate to the Video / General tab.
  • FPS Cap: Set to match your monitor refresh rate (60 Hz, 144 Hz, or Unlimited) for ultra-smooth movement.
  • Game Window Size: ClassicUO allows you to freely resize the game viewport or run in fullscreen without distorting classic sprites.
  • Zoom: Use your mouse scroll wheel (or hold Ctrl + Scroll) to zoom your camera in or out dynamically.

Quality of Life Options

  • Health Bars: Enable status bars for yourself, party members, and pets that can be dragged out and locked onto the screen.
  • Smooth Movement: Ensures character running and mount animations render smoothly across the screen.

The Razor Assistant (Razor Community Edition)

Modern Razor Community Edition (Razor CE) Razor is the premier gameplay assistant for Ultima Online. The modern **Community Edition** bundled with our launcher features 64-bit performance, completely portable architecture, modern hotkey management, powerful automated agents, and a dedicated **Razor Scripting Engine**.

Portable Architecture & Profiles

Razor CE is completely portable — all settings, macros, and scripts are stored directly within subfolders of your Razor installation directory:

  • Profiles/ — Stores XML settings for each character profile.
  • Macros/ — Traditional recorded .macro files.
  • Scripts/ — Human-readable .razor script files.
  • counters.xml — Custom item counters configuration.

Profile Best Practice: It is strongly recommended to maintain **one unique profile per character**. If multiple characters share the same profile while logged in simultaneously, profile changes may overwrite each other.

Comprehensive Tab-by-Tab Configuration Guide

1. General Tab

  • Profile Selector: Create, clone, or delete character-specific profiles.
  • Smart CPU Reduction: Throttles background processing when the game client loses focus to conserve battery and system resources.
  • Object Delay: Sets the millisecond pause between item interactions (standard default is ~600-1000 ms to avoid server action queue penalties).

2. Options Tab

  • Auto-Open Doors: Automatically opens doors in front of your character as you run toward them.
  • Auto-Open Corpses: Opens monster corpses within range upon slaying them.
  • Search Exemption Hue: Colors containers added to the Search Exemption Agent so your looting scripts do not recursively search them.
  • Spell Target Queuing: Queues target cursor actions while casting so your spell instantly executes on your target the exact moment the casting animation completes.

3. Display & Counters Tab

Allows monitoring your supplies (reagents, bandages, arrows, potions, gold) directly on your game interface:

  • ClassicUO Note: If using ClassicUO, use the built-in ClassicUO Counter Bar for hardware-accelerated icon rendering.
  • Custom Counter Formatting: Set custom warning thresholds (e.g. flashing red when bandages or Greater Heal potions drop below 10).

4. Arm / Dress Tab

Configure instant equipment sets that swap with a single keypress:

  • Weapon Sets: Create dedicated one-handed, two-handed, or shield loadouts.
  • Auto-Move Conflicting Items: Automatically disarms two-handed weapons before equipping a shield and sword, returning unequipped gear to your backpack.
  • Undress Hotkeys: Instant hotkeys to strip armor before casting spells that require high meditation efficiency.

5. Skills Tab

  • Displays real-time skill values (both Base and Modified with stat bonuses).
  • Features gain logging to track your training speed (Skill Gain / Hour) and verify lock status (Up, Down, Locked).

6. Agents Tab (Looting & Organization Mastery)

Razor features powerful automated agents that eliminate tedious inventory management:

  • Restock Agent:
    • Define a supply list (e.g. 50 of each reagent, 30 bandages, 5 Greater Cure potions).
    • Walk up to your bank box or supply chest, trigger the agent, and Razor instantly restocks the exact quantities needed.
  • Organizer Agent:
    • Automatically transfers specific item types (e.g. gems, magical scrolls, raw ores, gold) from your backpack into designated home storage chests or bags.
  • Buy & Sell Agents:
    • Automatically buys all reagents or ingots from NPC vendors upon saying "vendor buy".
    • Automatically sells bulk crafted daggers, bows, or leather armor when opening a merchant trade window.
  • Scavenger Agent:
    • Automatically loots designated ground items (e.g. arrows, bolts, reagents, gold) within range into your backpack.
  • Use Once Agent:
    • Add a series of items (e.g. magic trapped pouches) to be used consecutively via a single hotkey. Essential for instantly breaking Paralyze spells in PvP/PvM!

7. Filters Tab

  • Light Filter: Forces the client to render 100% full daylight at all times, preventing dark nights and pitch-black dungeon visibility issues.
  • Sound Filters: Mutes repetitive background sound effects (e.g. sheep bleating, continuous forge hammering).
  • Death Filter: Disables the screen-locking "You are dead" grey flash for faster situational awareness as a ghost.
  • Dragon Scales: Overrides dragon scale visuals for clean screen rendering during crowded boss encounters.

8. Hot Keys Tab

Hotkeys are the foundation of fluid combat and survival in Britannia.

9. Friends Tab

  • Add guildmates, faction allies, and party members to your Razor Friends list.
  • Enables "Target Nearest Non-Friend", preventing you from accidentally attacking or poisoning allies during intense group dungeon crawls.

10. Macros Tab

Traditional Razor macros record action sequences for crafting and resource gathering:

  • Record & Stop: Record repetitive tasks (e.g. chopping trees, mining rock, sewing clothes).
  • Pauses & Delays: Insert pauses (e.g. Pause 1.25s) to respect server action cooldowns.
  • Absolute Target Variables: Allows macros to adapt to new target objects (like new forges or resource piles) without re-recording.

11. The Modern Razor Scripting Engine

Razor Community Edition features a powerful, human-readable **Scripting Engine** (using .razor text files). Unlike traditional recorded macros, scripts can be written and edited in any text editor (like Notepad or VS Code) using clean, logical programming syntax:
