Sosarian Atlas: The Cities of Britannia & The Lost Lands When entering UO: Renaissance, players step into a rich, living realm spanning the continent of Britannia, its surrounding archipelagos, and the untamed frontiers of The Lost Lands (T2A). While all newly created characters with Young Player Status awaken on The Island of Ocllo (The Young Player Haven) for protected learning and progression, every town across Sosaria offers unique virtues, markets, dungeons, and natural resources for aspiring crafters and seasoned adventurers.

The Young Player Haven

Ocllo: Young Player Haven

Ocllo — The Island Haven for Young Adventurers

Region: Britannia Designation: Young Player Haven & Safe Haven Guard Protection: Full Municipal Town Guard Zone across the island Moongate: Direct Travel Portal to the Britain Bank / Young Teleporter Network Historical Lore & Overview: In Ultima Online, the island town of Ocllo lies in the midst of the ocean south of Magincia and east of Trinsic. The island features sparse woodland, rolling pastures, and an expansive inland saltwater lake connected to the sea by a narrow channel. Ocllo was crafted specifically as an oasis of learning and peaceful development for newly arrived travelers. Key Facilities: Comprehensive municipal bank, expansive blacksmith forges, tailor shop, apothecary, stable master, and archery ranges. Combat & Hunting: The nearby Ocllo Sewers and Caverns offer tiered dungeons populated by vermin, skeletons, and orcs — ideally scaled for apprentices without fear of PK interference.

Britain

Britain — The Capital City of Compassion

Region: Britannia Location: Central Mainland Public Moongate: Yes (Northwest Bridge) Guard Protection: Full Town Guard Protection within town limits Historical Lore & Overview: Renamed when the entire realm was given its new title -- when Lord Robert was defeated on the Crimson Plains -- Britain is the capital city of Britannia. Lord British's seat of power is located at what could be considered the interior vertex of the angular continent. It is situated beside a great river that runs from the eastern mountain range into Brittany Bay. For its size, Britain is a clean city, looking much like an English city at the end of the Medieval era, just on the cusp of the Renaissance. Magnificent stone buildings intermixed with sturdy wood-and-plaster shops and homes. In the middle of the walled-city is Lord British's marvelous castle, complete with moat and draw bridge. Overall, Britain represents the latest and best of every discipline imaginable, second only to those communities that specialize in particular disciplines (and only in the aspects relating to those specific disciplines).

Moonglow

Moonglow — The City of Honesty

Region: Britannia Location: Verity Isle (Eastern Sea) Public Moongate: Yes (South of Town) Guard Protection: Full Town Guard Protection within town limits Historical Lore & Overview: Moonglow is found on the southern tip of Verity Isle, which was named to reflect the objective intellectual pursuits of the city's populace. Although the buildings were designed and constructed by the architects and masons from mainland Britannia, the overall appearance of the city is one of function over form. Buildings are sturdy and devoid of superfluous accouterments. The streets are narrow, but straightforward and well-connected. In many ways, the city looks like one large campus, with the Lycaeum as the central college. Much of the study that goes on in Moonglow, and especially at the Lycaeum, is of the arcane arts. Nearly every form of sorcery, enchantment and potion is studied here, and most of the realm's research into new magic is performed here. Almost every great wizard interested in enhancing his or her personal abilities, or in increasing Britannia's pool of abilities, has spent at least a few months within the walls of the Lycaeum. Not wanting to worry about inconveniences of daily life, the residents of Moonglow have worked hard to ensure they have every contemporary labor-saving device and invention known to the realm. Although nearly all is imported, the keen minds quickly dissect and analyze the latest gadgets, as their understanding of technology is usually quite strong.

Trinsic

Trinsic — The Walled City of Honor

Region: Britannia Location: South-Central Coast Public Moongate: Yes (Northwest Gate) Guard Protection: Full Town Guard Protection within town limits Historical Lore & Overview: Trinsic is the city dedicated to the virtue of Honor, and therefore the headquarters of the paladins of Britannia. Situated north of the Cape of Heroes and south of Paws, the first thing a traveller will see when reaching the city will be its city walls, which span around the whole city, the pride of the inhabitants. Preserving the walls even after the old times of war, in times of danger, a password is needed to pass through one of the three city gates. Found in the center of the city is the pedestal where once the Rune of Honor rested, although it was stolen, and sold to the Royal Museum in Britain, reflecting the loss of virtue at that time of history. The city stands on a strong economic basis. Being a sea-side city, it has a harbor with a shipwright. The Honorable Hound tavern has a wide array of foods and drinks available. The town also has a healer, provisioner, armory, stables as well as trainers for the fighting arts. In Trinsic, some of the best weapons and armor in Britannia can be brought for a reasonable price.

Minoc

Minoc — The Town of Sacrifice & Forges

Region: Britannia Location: Northern Mountains Public Moongate: Yes (Eastern Road) Guard Protection: Full Town Guard Protection within town limits Historical Lore & Overview: Minoc is found in the northeastern region of the realm, nestled within the mountains. Although initially a community of artisans and gadgeteers, recently-discovered precious ores have turned it into a mining town. Minoc is essentially a rough-and-tumble frontier mining town. Furs are common, given the cold climate. It has very much the feel of a communitarian place, like an old Gold Rush city. The Gadgeteers Guild is located in Minoc in order to provide easy access to the materials they need: the metals and ores, and the raw lumber. Minoc produces most of the raw materials such as ore and lumber for Britain, Magincia, and Vesper. Its inventors and gadgeteers design many of the nifty things foudn on sale in Vesper, but manufacture of this things tends to be moved to Vesper after the initial design is done in Minoc, in order to have quicker access to the marketplace. Mount Kendall, just to the east of town, is a towering peak with a system of caverns and rich mining prospects.

Yew

Yew — The Forest City of Justice

Region: Britannia Location: Northwestern Deep Forest Public Moongate: Yes (Northeast Woods) Guard Protection: Full Town Guard Protection within town limits Historical Lore & Overview: Yew is a city within the Deep Forest of northwestern Britannia. Dedicated to the Virtue of Justice, Yew has long been home to the High Court of the realm, and has attracted a large druidic community around it. Throughout the ages, the city has coexisted with the surrounding natural world, occasionally dissolving into a series of scattered hamlets within the forests when its population has dwindled, and coming for several years to merge with the adjacent lands of Empath Abbey, the keep of Love. Given the woodland surrounding it, Yew's economy has often been bolstered by the timber trade, and huntsmen and rangers are a common sight among its people. The legal establishment in Yew, however, has long been its defining feature and, in times both prosperous and ill, large numbers of trials and prisoners alike have been processed within this city.

Skara Brae

Skara Brae — The Isle of Spirituality

Region: Britannia Location: Western Coast Isle Public Moongate: Yes (Mainland Ferry) Guard Protection: Full Town Guard Protection within town limits Historical Lore & Overview: This is the city of Spirituality and the home base of the rangers of Britannia. The city itself was rebuilt only recently, therefore all of the buildings are relatively new. Years earlier, the city had been utterly destroyed by a magical explosion, the buildings ruined shells, and the inhabitants ghosts wandering the streets It is situated on an island west of the main continent, separated from Spiritwood by the Misty Channel. A ferry is always waiting to transport visitors from the mainlain by boarding the skiffs and saying cross.

Jhelom

Jhelom — The Warrior City of Valor

Region: Britannia Location: Valorian Isles (Southern Sea) Public Moongate: Yes (Northern Isle) Guard Protection: Full Town Guard Protection within town limits Historical Lore & Overview: Jhelom is located on the northern tip of the largest of the Valorian Isles, surrounded by sparse jungles and rocky beaches. Jhelom is very much like a frontier town. The streets are filled with mercenaries -- some newly trained, some veterans -- looking to sell their sword arms. In addition to the many training sallies, various shops and establishments have sprung up over time to service the fighters.

Vesper

Vesper — The City of Industry & Bridges

Region: Britannia Location: Eastern Seaport & Canals Public Moongate: Yes (South Crossroads) Guard Protection: Full Town Guard Protection within town limits Historical Lore & Overview: Vesper exists as a major sea port for Britiannia. It has a wide variety of shops largely due to the crafts originating from Minoc, which is in close proximity. Most of the city is divided by a series of canals into a collection of sixteen islands, all interconnected by stone bridges. Due to all the stone work, Vesper has a reputation for being a beautiful city.

Magincia

Magincia — The Island of Humility

Region: Britannia Location: Eastern Ocean Island Public Moongate: Yes (Island Center) Guard Protection: Full Town Guard Protection within town limits Historical Lore & Overview: Magincia was once a legendary testament to Humility -- but not by design. Magincia started out as a thriving merchant community, the envy of all Britannia. A few years after its foundation, the Magincians fell prey to Pride, transforming their town into an opulent and decadent city of vast gardens and marble palaces.

Cove

Cove — The Secluded Mountain Haven

Region: Britannia Location: Mountain Bay between Britain and Vesper Moongate Access: No (Overland via Minoc/Britain) Guard Protection: Guarded Historical Lore & Overview: Cove is a tiny coastal village located between Britain and Vesper. This small community has but a handful of buildings, among them a farmers market, a supply shop for warriors, and a healer. There is a fortress to the south that has served in the past as a staging point for periodic Orc attacks on the town. The bank in Cove was only built within the past few years, allowing the town slightly more foot traffic.

Nujel'm

Nujel'm — The Island of Pleasure & Luxury

Region: Britannia Location: Island northeast of Magincia Moongate Access: No (Reachable by Sea / Teleporters) Guard Protection: Guarded Historical Lore & Overview: Nujel'm is located on a remote island off the coast of Vesper. This is a hot place: bathing suits, shorts, pastel colors and filmy fabrics adorn the locals, nothing heavy. Although its level of technology is high, it exists as a place to get away from it all. Nujel'm is built of gleaming white and orange sandstone, and black and white marble. It is full of arches, sweeping buttresses, narrow and crowded bazaars full of cloth-draped stalls, warrens of ghettoes carefully hidden from the tourists, and large airy palaces with pools and Grecian style columns. Nujel'm is considered a pleasure city, and often nobles from Magincia or Moonglow can be found vacationing on it's sandy beaches. There are rumors however that beneath it's glittery exterior Nujel'm is a city of corruption that nearly rivals Buc's Den. In contrast to the sprawling, luxurious buildings that comprise the town, towards the northern end of the island is a large collection of grim hovels, ostensibly located just outside the town walls. Nujel'm boasts a number of interesting landmarks such as a large palace, a life-size chessboard, guillotine and a large conservatory.

Serpent's Hold

Serpent's Hold — The Order of the Silver Serpent

Region: Britannia Location: Isle of Deeds (Southeast Ocean) Moongate Access: No (Docks & Ship Travel) Guard Protection: Guarded Fortress Historical Lore & Overview: Constructed on the largest island just east and south of the Cape of Heroes, the Isle of Deeds, Serpent's Hold is the training grounds for nearly all of the realm's fighting population. Serpent's Hold is a single, compound structure, with an internal castle to house the Lord, Captains, and instructors, meetings halls, and mess hall. Outside of that, but within the keep's walls, are the barracks, the smithy, the stables, and the training grounds. Serpent's Hold is less a city than it is a stronghold. Although the keep has been there for some time, very few buildings have sprung up around it. The land is not particularly favorable for farming or hunting, so no one has come to the keep seeking protection. In addition, most of the soldiers move on once they've completed their training, so the only non-warriors who have taken up residence in the area are those who can provide for the Hold's needs, such as blacksmiths, tanners, etc.

Buccaneer's Den

Buccaneer's Den — Refuge of Pirates & Cutthroats

Region: Britannia Location: Island southeast of Britain Moongate Access: No (Reachable by Sea / Secret Tunnels) Guard Protection: Lawless (NO GUARDS) Historical Lore & Overview: This uncivilized community is located on the large island on the southeast edge of Brittany Bay. Buccaneer's Den is less of a city or town than it is a collection of hovels and huts where privateers and pirates can hole up to avoid the law or prepare for the next excursion. With the exception of a few blacksmiths who are there to provide weapon and armor repairs, nearly all items of technology found on the island are stolen from coastal cities or plundered from misfortunate shops.

Wind

Wind — The Underground City of Magicka

Region: Britannia Location: Subterranean Cavern (Magery 72.0+ to Enter) Moongate Access: No (Recall / Surface Teleporter) Guard Protection: Guarded Inner Sanctuary Historical Lore & Overview: Wind is an underground, guarded city of mages. Entrance is via a teleporter from the surface. It is not possible to Recall or Gate into the city nor anywhere within the city. It is possible to Recall out. A magery of at least 72 is required to enter A lich frequently greets travelers at the entrance. You are advised to keep a heal or cure at hand. The main provisioner's shop is located to the west, between the Wind Alchemy Shop and the Windy Clothes Shop. Food, armor, and some weapons may be purchased here. There is no cobbler in Wind. The Seekers Inn is located to the north of the teleporter into the Park. The Park is unguarded. Here are found monsters of various sorts, most of which are very lethal. The Wind Alchemy Shop is your best source of reagents and potions. Scrolls and other magical supplies cannot be purchased within the city, unless a traveller happens to have sold them to one of the shopkeepers. At the time of this writing, there was no proprietor manning the Alchemist of Wind Shop to the northeast.

The Lost Lands (The Second Age)

Discovered through mystical subterranean passages and ancient teleporters, The Lost Lands (T2A) represent an untamed, primeval wilderness home to two thriving frontier outposts:

Delucia

Delucia — The City in Ruins

Region: The Lost Lands (T2A) Location: Southwestern Lost Lands Passage Access: Access via Minoc or Trinsic T2A Passages Guard Protection: Guarded Historical Lore & Overview: The city of ruins, as some may call it, lies in the south-west corner of the Lost Lands. It can be reached by foot quite easily by those who are not afraid to fight a few mongbats and giant spiders in the dungeon leading to it. Delucia lies well protected between large mountains and palisade walls. Miners and Smiths will most likely find this a good place to live in. There are a lot of mountains within the range of the guards protection, and the local armorer has a forge to smelt ore in. Around the city there are deer, cows and even horses grazing the grassy lands. Inexperienced warriors have enough to hunt on, and tailors will be pleased with the amount of hides the hunters will bring back to the village. Tailors will also be pleased with the cotton field in Delucia, cotton can be picked and turned into spools of thread or sold directly for gold. Delucia also has stables to leave your pet when you need to travel back to Britannia. The fields in Delucia spawn turnips and lettuce, enough to keep your pets happy. The local bank, mage shop, provisioner and healer can aid all adventurers who decide to make Delucia the start and end point of their adventures.

Papua

Papua — The Swamp City

Region: The Lost Lands (T2A) Location: Eastern Lost Lands Marshlands Passage Access: Access via Moonglow Teleporter ("recsu" / "recdu") Guard Protection: Guarded Historical Lore & Overview: Papua is located in the eastern reaches of the Lost Lands, one of only two towns in that area and as such is a popular jumping off point for adventures in that region. It is surrounded by a vast swamp which is a habitat of giant frogs, alligators and other marshland denizens. The architecture of Papua consists mainly of rattan, woven walls with thatched roofing. Among the interesting or unique sites are the shipwright, which features a ship seemingly perpetually under construction, a stable with horse dung and a mage shop where players can traverse to Moonglow via a teleporter. To use the teleporter, stand on it and say the magic word recsu. Players wishing to return to Papua from Moonglow should stand on the opposite teleporter there and utter recdu. Far to the north of Papua is the Lighthouse.
