Finding an Entrance (Felucca Gates)

Unlike standard Britannian dungeons, the City of the Dead does not possess a fixed, permanent entrance on the world map. Instead, adventurers must venture into FELUCCA to hunt special Halloween-themed undead spawns placed by shard staff.

๐Ÿ’€ Eligible Gate-Opening Undead

Hunting in Felucca graveyards and seasonal staff spawn locations is the key to discovering an entrance. Eligible creatures include:

  • Event Zombies & Skeletons
  • Special Undead: The Watcher and the Prowler
  • Thematic Foes: Ghostly Pirates, Vampires, Mummies, and dedicated Graveyard Undead
  • NOH-Themed Monsters: Specialized seasonal variants placed by event staff
Note: Ordinary lookalike overland undead do not necessarily qualify as gate-openers. Look for distinct NOH naming and seasonal hues.

Portal Spawn Rules & Mechanics

  • Drop Chance: Most eligible creatures have a percentage-based chance to manifest a gate upon death (typically **5% or 10%**, with select special zombies utilizing distinct probability rules).
  • Gate Appearance: The portal appears directly at the slain creature's corpse location.
  • Gate Restrictions:
    • Gates only appear while the City of the Dead event is actively enabled on the shard.
    • Gates will **never** spawn inside the new-player starting area or inside an active instance.
  • The Portal: Appears as a grey gate named "City of the Dead".
  • Duration: The gate remains open for approximately **45 seconds** before collapsing. Adventurers must step through promptly and confirm the one-way trip dialog.
  • Live Spawners: The game script does not fix static outdoor coordinates for event mob spawns; shard staff place and configure dynamic spawners across Felucca.

Entering & The Clock

Stepping into the City of the Dead subjects the player to strict security protocols, anti-abuse validations, and an active instance countdown.

Eligibility & Entry Requirements

Rule Condition & Enforcement
Life Status You must be **alive** to step through the gate. Ghosts cannot enter.
Travel Delay Recent recall, gate, or teleport travel can block entry for **45 seconds**.
Follower Cap The gate will flatly refuse entry to any character commanding **more than five follower slots**.
Account Standing Any account barred from scripted events is strictly denied entry.
Multi-Boxing Restrictions The shard system can enforce simultaneous entry blocks, preventing characters from the same **account, IP address, or linked Discord ID** from being inside concurrently.

The Countdown & The [NoH Gump

  • Instance Duration: The control stone's default session run is **50 ticks of 30 seconds** (approximately **25 minutes** total).
  • Timer Start: Your clock begins the moment you load into the City of the Dead entrance area, **not** when you engage in combat.
  • Heads-Up Display (HUD): A compact on-screen display monitors your current **Time Left** and **Score**.
  • The [NoH Command: Typing [NoH or clicking the display button opens the detailed tracking interface, showing:
    • Detailed Kill Counts (support mobs, minibosses, bosses)
    • Visit Counts & Death History
    • The **Leave Instance** early departure button
  • Entrance Staging Limit: Shard staff can optionally toggle an entrance-region timer (defaulting to four 30-second ticks, or approximately 2 minutes, turned OFF by default). If activated, lingering inside the "City of the Dead Entrance" until the timer expires ejects you from the dungeon. Venturing forward into the main chambers clears this entrance timer (though time spent in the foyer still deducts from your 25-minute total run).

What to Do Inside: Six Boss Paths

The City of the Dead is structured into **six distinct themed wings**. Defeating support creatures and minibosses within each wing advances that area's shared boss track.

โšก Shared Progression: Progress toward summoning bosses is dungeon-wide and shared among all active participants. Multiple paths can progress simultaneously, and your party can conquer them in any order!

Track Points & Summoning Thresholds

  • Regular Themed Kills: +1 point to that area's boss track.
  • Miniboss Kills: +2 points to that area's boss track.
  • Candle Milestones: Reaching **15, 30, 45, and 60 points** ignites an additional progress candle/flame within that wing.
  • Boss Spawn: Accumulating **75 points** immediately spawns that area's apex boss (thresholds are configurable by staff via the control stone).

The Six Themed Wings

Wing Themed Minions & Minibosses Area Boss Encounter
1. Pirate Quarter Undead Parrots, Ghostly Pirates, Sailors, the Spectral Kraken, and Pirate Windfinder Pirate Captain Johnne
2. Vampire Court Enthralled Servants, Blood Slaves, Succubus Concubines, and Vampire Mistresses Queen of the Damned
3. Mummy Precinct Mummified Cats, Undead Slaves, High Priestesses, and Temple Guards Royal Mummy
4. Laboratory Impish Assistants, Failed Experiments, and Reanimated Hounds Dr. Frankenstein
*(Defeating the doctor brings forth **Frankenstein's Monster**; slaying the monster completes the path)*
5. Vampire Lair Mindless Golems, Larval Vampires, the Cook, Vampires, and Automatons Vampire Lord
6. Necromancer's Grounds Restless Undead, Mortician Apprentices, Grave Diggers, and Morticians The Necromancer

The Overlord Climax

When all six themed boss paths have been conquered, the dungeon shifts into its climactic finale:

  • Arrival of The Overlord: The master of the City of the Dead, The Overlord, materializes for the ultimate realm battle.
  • Elite Horrors: The Overlord is guarded by fearsome nightmare horrors, worth significantly more points than standard dungeon minibosses.
  • Collaborative Victory: Because boss tracks and completion statuses are shared, players who helped clear early wings can join in the final fight even if another group landed the fifth or sixth area boss kill.

Reading the Candles & Indicators

The City of the Dead provides clear visual cues via candles, braziers, and sconces to help parties gauge their progress across the instance:

๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ 1. Local Wing Candles
Local candles, braziers, or sconces reflect progression toward that specific wing's boss. Four visible stages correspond to the 15, 30, 45, and 60 point marks. When the boss spawns at 75 points, the local candles extinguish.
๐Ÿšช 2. Entrance Sanctuary Candles
Candles placed near the dungeon entrance provide a quick overview of active encounters: six candles indicate which area bosses are currently alive, while a seventh candle illuminates when The Overlord encounter is active.
๐Ÿ‘‘ 3. Overlord Final Candles
Six named candles near the Overlord's arena track completed wings. Each ignites upon the defeat of that wing's boss. Once all six are lit and The Overlord is summoned, they extinguish to prepare for the next cycle.

๐Ÿ’ก Pro-Tip: A dark candle does not necessarily mean an area is untouched! Always check local area sconces and confirm whether the wing's boss has already been summoned and is roaming the hall.

Scoring System & Damage Rules

Every monster slain in the City of the Dead awards personal score visible in the [NoH HUD:

Kill Score Values
Kill Category Score Value Examples & Details
Standard Support Mobs 1 Point Mummified Cats, Restless Undead, Larval Vampires, Blood Slaves
Strong Undead / Skeletons 2 – 3 Points Tougher skeletal guards, morticians, specialized zombies
Wing Minibosses 10 Points High Priestesses, Vampire Mistresses, Failed Experiments, Grave Diggers
Overlord Elite Minions 25 Points The Overlord's specialized nightmare horrors
Area Bosses 50 Points Captain Johnne, Queen of the Damned, Royal Mummy, Frankenstein's Monster, Vampire Lord, Necromancer
The Overlord 300 Points Apex dungeon boss vanquish

Credit & Damage Mechanics

  • Top Damager Credit: Points for a slain monster are awarded exclusively to the player who dealt the **highest total damage** to that creature. Damage participation alone does not split points.
  • Pet Ownership: If a controlled pet deals the highest damage, its master receives full kill score credit.
  • Track Points vs. Personal Score: Advancing the boss tracks (1 point for normal, 2 for miniboss) is separate from your personal score. A group working together advances the boss tracks equally even if a single high-damage player secures the kill credit.
  • Tracked Non-Score Metrics: Your visits, time spent in the dungeon, and death counts are logged independently in the [NoH gump and do not subtract from or add to your score.

Leaving, Death & Lost Pets

Navigating an exit or suffering a death inside the City of the Dead is governed by automated safety and retrieval systems:

Voluntarily Leaving

  • Open the [NoH interface and click the Leave Instance button to depart at any time.
  • **Restrictions**:
    • You **cannot** use the Leave Instance feature while flagged as a **criminal**.
    • If you have died and your corpse is present, a brief delay may prevent instantaneous manual departure.
    • There is no separate combat-lock timer; criminal status and corpse delays are the only manual restrictions.

Time Expiration & Corpse Evacuation

  • When your 25-minute instance timer reaches zero, you are automatically teleported to the designated exterior safe exit.
  • The system automatically transports your **bonded pets and most recent corpse** along with you to the safety zone.
  • Departing the dungeon early does **not** refund unused time. To return, you must locate and step through a newly spawned grey gate in Felucca.

๐Ÿพ The "Collect Lost Pets" Feature

If you leave the dungeon and discover a pet was left stranded inside, open your [NoH gump while outside the dungeon and select Collect Lost Pets. The system will safely recall your companion to your side.

Quick Plan for a First Run

For solo adventurers or newly formed groups taking on the City of the Dead for the first time, follow this battle-tested itinerary:

  1. Gear Up for Felucca: Prepare a durable PvM template with reliable crowd control, area damage, and pet or bandage support. Keep in mind that gate hunting occurs in Felucca!
  2. Hunt Seasonal Spawns: Roam Felucca graveyards and staff spawner zones targeting event zombies, skeletons, Watchers, and Prowlers.
  3. Enter Promptly: When a grey gate titled "City of the Dead" appears, confirm entry within 45 seconds. Ensure you do not exceed 5 follower slots.
  4. Check Time & Leave Entrance: Upon arrival, verify your [NoH HUD and advance out of the entrance foyer into the main dungeon halls immediately.
  5. Coordinate an Area Path: Pick one of the six wings (such as the Pirate Quarter or Mummy Precinct) and eliminate themed minions (+1 point) and minibosses (+2 points).
  6. Watch the Candles: Observe the local sconces igniting at 15, 30, 45, and 60 points. Prepare for the boss when approaching 75 points.
  7. Slay the Area Boss: Defeat the wing boss (50 points) to extinguish the local markers and light one of the six final candles near the Overlord's chamber.
  8. Clear All 6 Wings & Slay The Overlord: Push through the remaining wings with other shard adventurers. When all six final candles burn bright, gather at the Overlord's sanctum to bring down The Overlord (300 points)!
  9. Exit or Evacuate Safely: When your timer runs down or bags are full, exit via [NoH, and use Collect Lost Pets if any faithful companion was left behind.
